Assignment Description
Go to http://www.acm.org/about/se-code (Links to an external site.) to find the Software
Engineering Code of Ethics and Professional Practice. They have listed 8 Principles.
Choose 5 Principles from the list and elaborate on each of them by providing an
example. Thus you need to write 5 different examples total. Your explanation must
contain at least 20 words for each example. (Even if you choose more than 5, you will
not get extra credits. First 5 will be graded.)
Please clearly specify which principle each example belongs to.
The following is the short version:
(Copyright (c) 1999 by the Association for Computing Machinery, Inc. and the Institute
for Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.)
PREAMBLE The short version of the code summarizes aspirations at a high level of the
abstraction; the clauses that are included in the full version give examples and details of
how these aspirations change the way we act as software engineering professionals.
Without the aspirations, the details can become legalistic and tedious; without the
details, the aspirations can become high sounding but empty; together, the aspirations
and the details form a cohesive code

— A software engineer knew that there was a defect on the Pacemaker that he/she
wrote code for, but did not report to the employer or the client before it was released to
users. This type of practices violates the principle.
